ARE GEL BLASTERS LEGAL?

by Simon Moret 14 Jun 2024

Gel blasters have surged in popularity in recent years, providing a thrilling and engaging recreational activity.

However, ensuring safety, enjoyment, and responsible use is crucial to protect users, the public, and preserve the long-term enjoyment of this exciting hobby.

Key Legislative Recommendations

Safety Testing

All gel blasters we offer undergo thorough testing to meet established safety standards and criteria.

Power Limits

Power limits are clearly indicated in the product descriptions to ensure compliance and transparency.

Public Use and Safety

Firing gel blasters in public areas or at individuals without consent is strictly prohibited to avoid accidents and misunderstandings.

Open Carry Restrictions

Carrying gel blasters openly in public spaces is not permitted. When transporting gel blasters, they should be stored in secure containers to prevent alarm or confusion.

Designated Play Areas

We strongly recommend using gel blasters on designated fields or arenas where safety protocols are enforced, and supervision is available if needed.

Age Restrictions

Non-realistic gel blasters are available for purchase without age restrictions, but each product description highlights the recommended age for use.

Where Are Gel Blasters Legal?

EUROPEAN UNION (EU)

The EU does not have a unified law regarding gel blasters. Regulations vary by country and are set by individual member states.

Gel Blaster are legal in Spain

Gel blasters are legal in Spain, but their power must not exceed 330 FPS (approximately 1 joule with a 0.2g gel ball). This restriction prevents them from being classified as more dangerous firearms. When transporting gel blasters, they must be kept out of sight, and their use in public areas is strictly prohibited to avoid confusion or accidents.

Gel Blasters are legal in Belgium

In Belgium, gel blasters can be purchased and used by individuals 18 years old and over. Since gel blasters fall under the category of non-combustion weapons, no license or permit is required. However, when transporting them, they must be concealed, and their use in public spaces is not allowed to ensure public safety.

Gel Blasters are legal in Czech Republic

The Czech Republic allows individuals 18 years old and over to buy and sell gel blasters freely, without the need for special licenses or permissions. Despite this freedom, gel blasters must be concealed during transport and cannot be used in public places. This regulation helps maintain safety and prevents public disturbances.

Gel Blasters are legal in Denmark

Gel blasters are legal in Denmark for those 18 years old and over. However, individuals 16 years old and over can use them on police-approved fields with parental consent. This dual approach ensures young players can enjoy the hobby in safe, regulated environments. Transporting gel blasters must be done discreetly, and carrying them openly is not permitted.

Gel Blasters are legal in Sweden

Sweden classifies gel blasters as limited effect firearms, meaning they can be purchased by individuals 18 years old and over without the need for licenses. This classification reflects their lower risk compared to airsoft or paintball guns. However, to minimize risk, gel blasters must be concealed during transport and are not allowed in public spaces.

Gel Blasters are legal in France

In France, gel blasters shooting at 464 FPS or lower are classified as toys. Individuals 14 years old and over can purchase and use them legally. If the gel blaster exceeds 464 FPS, it is considered an air rifle, and the buyer must be 18 years old or over. Transporting gel blasters in public requires them to be kept out of sight.

Gel Blasters are legal in Austria

Gel blasters are legal in Austria for individuals 18 years old and over. There are no licensing requirements, but gel blasters must be concealed during transport and cannot be used in public spaces.

Gel Blasters are legal in Germany

Gel Blasters are legal in Germany if they have a maximum energy of 0.5 joules, which corresponds to approximately 250 FPS with standard 0.2g gel balls. If this criterion is met, they are classified as toy weapons and can be purchased and used by persons aged 14 and over. These toy weapons must not be visibly carried in public. Transporting gel blasters in public requires them to be concealed.

Any Gel Blaster with a muzzle energy of more than 0.5 joules (approx. 250 FPS with 0.2g standard gel balls) is classified in Germany as an air rifle and not as a toy. These models may only be sold to persons aged 18 and over and require a legal "F in a pentagon" marking.

However, there is a certain measurement tolerance, as each shot may vary slightly depending on factors such as temperature, humidity, and the condition of the gel balls. Therefore, the actual speed of a Gel Blaster may differ slightly in tests.

Gel Blasters are legal in Ireland

Ireland permits gel blasters as long as they shoot below 330 FPS. Individuals 18 years old and over can purchase them freely. As in many countries, gel blasters must be concealed during transport and cannot be used in public spaces.

Gel Blasters are legal in Italy

In Italy, gel blasters shooting at 330 FPS or lower (approximately 1 joule) are classified as toys. There are no age restrictions on purchasing or using them, but they must be concealed during transport.

Gel Blasters are legal in Netherlands

Gel blasters are legal in the Netherlands for individuals 18 years old and over. They are considered limited effect firearms and must be concealed during transport. Public use is strictly prohibited.

UNITED KINGDOM

Gel blasters are legal in the United Kingdom but must comply with specific regulations. For gel blasters with automatic firing capabilities, the maximum allowable muzzle energy is 1.3 joules, equivalent to approximately 375 FPS when using a standard 0.2g gel ball. This limit ensures gel blasters are classified as toys rather than firearms.

When transporting gel blasters, they must be concealed to prevent misunderstandings and ensure public safety. Openly carrying or using gel blasters in public spaces is strictly prohibited throughout the UK.

UNITED STATES

Gel blasters are legal across the United States, though regulations can vary by state. In most areas, buyers must be 18 years or older to purchase gel blasters. A key requirement in many states is that gel blasters must have an orange tip on the barrel to distinguish them from real firearms.

When transporting gel blasters, they must be kept out of sight to avoid confusion with real weapons. Using or displaying gel blasters in public areas is not allowed across the country.
